For a new, up-and-coming FinTech company in Canada that is less than three years old and has shown the most entrepreneurial success in the past year in FinTech.  Success is measured on a number of factors, including innovative technology, solving a technology need, capturing a new sector or market with FinTech, disruption of a service or market segment, application of product or service and traction in, or ability to obtain traction in the international marketplace.

For an established FinTech company in Canada that has been providing financial products or services for over three years and is actively engaged in innovation creation.  Success is measured on a number of factors, including partnership with banks or providing services directly to consumers and growth adoption.

  1. AI Company of the Year

For the company in AI that has shown the most entrepreneurial success in the past year in AI.  Success is measured on a number of factors, including innovation, solving a technology problem, disruption of a service or market segment, application of product or service and traction in, or ability to obtain traction in the international marketplace in AI.

  1. AI for Good Award

This award is for a company or a person who creates AI technology that benefits humanity and could include advances in technology for the disabled or to address homelessness or to cure diseases or leadership that advances the dialogue in a thoughtful inclusive way in law and AI or philosophy and AI or in AI and diversity. This award is intended to be open to capture outside-the-box thinkers or companies who believe in using technology, to benefit humanity.

 

  1. Law Firm of the Year

For a law firm in Canada, that has been the most impactful in the FinTech space.  This Award ideally is for the law firm that has been in the FinTech or startup space for a number of years and who has been instrumental and impactful in helping to launch or grow FinTech companies through legal advice or were engaged for FinTech financings.

  1. Advisory Firm of the Year

For a consulting or accounting firm in Canada that has been the most impactful in advisory services in the FinTech space.  This Award is for the firm that has been in the FinTech or startup space for a number of years, that has been instrumental or impactful in helping to launch, grow or develop FinTech companies either through consulting or accounting services.

  1. Financial Institution of the Year

For the Canadian financial institution, bank or credit union or other financial institution that has had a positive impact in FinTech in Canada either by breaking down silos to support innovation internally, by creating innovating and novel FinTech for the financial institution, or by entering into partnerships that support or allow for the development of FinTech at the institutional level.  This Award is not designed for financial institutions that adopt, deploy, or purchase FinTech created and branded by third parties but rather is designed to recognize internal innovative initiatives that engage employees and support innovation designed in Canada by Canadians.

  1. Blockchain Company of the Year

For a Blockchain or distributed ledger technology startup based in Canada that has developed the most novel, practical or needed technology for digital currencies, Blockchain or distributed ledger tech.  Success could include consumer traction, tech prowess, novel or globally impactful solutions. This award is for technology in use and not for funding initiatives .This award is for Canadian startups with technology developed by Canadians.

  1. RegTech Company of the Year

This award is for the Canadian RegTech company that is physically based in Canada that has demonstrated the most thought leadership and developed the most impactful technology for regulation in financial services.  This award seeks to recognize Canadian companies that create leading solutions in the regulatory space that deserves recognition for technology.

  1. Accelerator/Incubator of the Year

For the accelerator or incubator that has demonstrated success in helping FinTech or AI startups to launch their businesses, or develop technology and work with others in the sector to develop innovative products or services that have an impact.  This award recognizes the importance of incubators and accelerators in fostering ecosystem support or other forms of support in Canada that advance innovation in Canada, or for all Canadians.

  1. Investment Firm of the Year

For the investment firm whose financial support created the most innovative technologies or developed the FinTech space the most in Canada.  This Award is targeted at recognizing the investment firm that has shown the most initiative in supporting FinTech companies with the capital that they needed to grow their businesses.  The investment firm will not necessarily have invested the most capital, in dollar terms in the FinTech sector.

  1. Academic Institution of the Year

This award is designed to recognize a university in Canada that has done the most to advance the FinTech or AI space in Canada or for Canada and services are measured in a number of ways; industry collaboration with different players in the ecosystem.

 

  1. FinTech Leader of the Year

For a Canadian person who has demonstrated the most leadership in FinTech and is targeted at recognizing a person who has had shaped the FinTech dialogue and supported the FinTech community in Canada.  Leadership is measured on a number of factors, including thought leadership, supporting Canada and inclusivity meaning a person who supports innovation of all Canadians from coast to coast to coast.

·      Must have been in FinTech for over 3 years

·      Must be a notable person

·      Not intended for advisory firms

 

  1. AI Leader of the Year

For a Canadian person who has demonstrated the most leadership in AI.  This Award is targeted at recognizing the person who has had the most impact in shaping the AI dialogue and supporting the AI community.  Leadership is measured on thought leadership, the advancement of commercial AI, or investment in AI and recognizes inclusivity, meaning a person who supports all of Canada.
